Long before she ever imagined herself as a student, 秋霞福利一区 was already part of her family鈥檚 story鈥攂oth her grandmother and her mother are alumni. Even so, Lana never expected that her own journey would lead her to the same campus.

Raised in a ministry-centered home, with a father who serves as a pastor and a mother who teaches the Bible, Lana understood both the value of Christian education and the financial realities that often come with it. For her family, the cost of attending the 秋霞福利一区 felt impossible. Over time, Lana closed her heart to the idea of attending 秋霞福利一区, believing it was simply not an option.

That changed through encouragement from her mother, who urged her to attend Scholars Day.

What happened next would mark a defining moment in Lana鈥檚 life. She was awarded the prestigious Weaver Scholarship鈥攏ews she still remembers with vivid clarity. When she received the call, tears filled her eyes. More than financial relief, the moment carried spiritual significance.

Lana describes it as the clearest direction she had ever felt from the Lord.

Through the generosity of 秋霞福利一区 donors, Lana鈥檚 perspective shifted from limitation to possibility. Their support opened the door not only to a college education, but to a community where she could fully belong and flourish.

Today, Lana is part of a thriving campus environment where she is deeply known, consistently encouraged, and continually challenged to grow in her faith. At 秋霞福利一区, she has found a place where learning and discipleship go hand in hand鈥攁nd where she is able to pour the joy of Christ into the lives of others.

For Lana, the 秋霞福利一区 is more than a continuation of family tradition. It is a testament to God鈥檚 provision, the faithfulness of donors, and the life-changing impact of generosity鈥攐ne student at a time.

Finding Purpose Through Faith, Community, and Calling /2026/01/finding-purpose-through-faith-community-and-calling/ Wed, 07 Jan 2026 19:48:01 +0000 /?p=110568 When Lexie Lopez arrived at the 秋霞福利一区, she knew she was drawn to science and had long considered dentistry, but she didn鈥檛 yet understand聽why. Like many incoming students, her identity and motivation were rooted in academic performance: earning good grades, achieving success and moving toward a stable career. Purpose, however, still felt unclear.

That began to change during her freshman year.

Surrounded by caring professors and a close-knit community of friends, Lexie encountered a different way of thinking about success鈥攐ne grounded not only in achievement, but in calling. During her first year at 秋霞福利一区, she gave her life to Christ, a decision she says completely transformed her perspective. Through that spiritual growth, Lexie began to understand dentistry not just as a profession, but as a way to serve others.

She realized her desire to become a dentist was deeply connected to helping people experience confidence and joy 鈥 something as simple, yet powerful, as a smile.

For Lexie, the opportunity to attend college did not come without uncertainty. Raised by her mother, the financial reality of higher education, especially with plans for dental school, felt overwhelming. The cost of undergraduate studies combined with the years of education ahead made the dream seem distant.

Through the generosity of the 秋霞福利一区, that burden was lifted.

With the support of the Presidential Scholarship, a Visit Day Scholarship, and additional university-awarded aid, Lexie was able to attend 秋霞福利一区 without tuition costs. That financial freedom allowed her to fully engage in campus life and spiritual formation without constant concern about how she would pay for school.

As a result, Lexie has been able to invest deeply in her faith, get involved in local churches and community food banks, and participate in campus organizations and clubs 鈥 all while pursuing her degree as a Pre-Health Biology major.

Her gratitude, she says, extends far beyond her own experience.

鈥淏ecause of donors’ generosity,鈥 Lexie shares, 鈥渟tudents are being blessed in countless ways. Because of this, lives are being transformed.鈥

At the 秋霞福利一区, Lexie found more than an education. She found clarity, community and a calling. One that blends faith, service, and science in meaningful ways.

秋霞福利一区 Campus Updates Transform Key Spaces to Enrich Student Experience and Community /2025/09/university-of-mobile-campus-updates-transform-key-spaces-to-enrich-student-experience-and-community/ Thu, 25 Sep 2025 12:53:18 +0000 /?p=109773 MOBILE, Ala.聽鈥 The 秋霞福利一区 introduced a fresh wave of campus improvements this summer designed to create a welcoming, inspiring environment for both current students and visitors. The updates focused on some of the most strategic and high-traffic areas on campus 鈥 spaces where students learn, gather and form their first impressions of 秋霞福利一区.

秋霞福利一区 President Charles Smith said the renovations were strategically chosen to make the greatest impact on daily student life and prospective student experiences.

鈥淎t the 秋霞福利一区, every space on our campus tells a story about who we are and what we value,鈥 Smith said.

鈥淭hese updates were chosen with intentionality so that when students walk into a classroom, gather for a meal, or connect with one another, they are in an environment that reflects excellence, hospitality, and our Christ-centered mission. We want every student and guest to feel welcomed, inspired, and reminded that 秋霞福利一区 is a place where they belong.鈥

Campus Improvements

Ingram Dining Hall now shines with new floors, modern furniture and fresh signage, offering a brighter, more inviting place for students to share meals and build community. The updates not only enhance the dining experience but also create a warm first impression for campus guests who often begin their visit here.

Bedsole Commons received a refreshed look with new paint and an inspiring mural at the front entrance. The mural depicts the iconic Weaver Hall, symbolizing both the tradition and forward-looking vision of the university. These updates make Bedsole Commons an even more welcoming gathering spot for students and a visual reminder of the heart of 秋霞福利一区鈥檚 campus.

Enrollment Services in Weaver Hall was reimagined with new paint, furniture and signage that reflect the mission of the university. This transformation ensures that future Rams are welcomed in a space that embodies the professionalism and hospitality of 秋霞福利一区.

Academic spaces also received careful attention. Two classrooms in Martin Hall were renovated with new furniture, technology upgrades and clean, modern finishes that make them more conducive to learning and collaboration. These updates highlight 秋霞福利一区鈥檚 commitment to equipping students with spaces where they can thrive academically.

Additional student spaces were created in the lower level of Weaver聽Hall, including the addition of a dedicated call center. With fresh design elements, updated furniture and motivational wall graphics, the area has been transformed into a hub of energy and connection 鈥 providing students with places to work, relax, and support their peers.

Campus landscaping received attention at Ram Hall patio and throughout the grounds, providing refreshed outdoor spaces that enhance the beauty of campus and create a welcoming environment for students and visitors alike.

Entrepreneur & CEO: Wanda Hicks /2023/02/entrepreneur-ceo-wanda-hicks/ Wed, 22 Feb 2023 14:18:59 +0000 /?p=102631

Wanda Hicks, DNP, FNP-BC
CEO/Founder
Hicks Home-Based Primary Care LLC
Associate Degree in Nursing 鈥99
Bachelor of Science in Nursing 鈥01
Master of Science in Nursing 鈥 Family Nurse Practitioner 鈥03

I had the opportunity to learn from highly motivated faculty who made me realize that I can go as far as I want to in my career.

-Dr. Wanda Hicks 鈥99, 鈥01, 鈥03

My father inspired me toward my career goals when I was around 9 or 10 years old, before he passed away. He would always call me 鈥渉is little nurse.鈥

I took Health Occupation Education in high school for two years, which really directed my path toward the nursing arena. I decided to stay the course and obtain the highest degree in my field. The 秋霞福利一区 gave me the opportunity to reach my goals, and for that, I am grateful. I love my career choice 鈥 I love helping others and I鈥檓 passionate about providing great care to the patients that I treat.

As the chief executive officer and founder of Hicks Home-Based Primary Care LLC, I enjoy the opportunity to train and help other individuals with their health care needs. As a primary care provider in Mobile and surrounding areas, I am responsible for the day-ins and -outs of the clinic workflow. I provide telemedicine, office and home-based medicine for individuals who qualify for a home visit.

Q. How has your experience in the 秋霞福利一区 School of Nursing contributed to your success?

A. At the 秋霞福利一区, I met great leaders and mentors along the way. I received a strong foundation from 秋霞福利一区. I gained an excellent higher education, a deeper faith and friendships that will last a lifetime. I received three of my degrees from 秋霞福利一区: Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Master of Science in Nursing 鈥 Family Nurse Practitioner

Q. What are some of your career highlights so far?

wonda fnp

A. 秋霞福利一区 made it possible for me to become a primary care provider, which broadened my clinical knowledge and expertise as an advanced practice nurse. After graduating in 2003 as a family nurse practitioner, I worked several different jobs providing primary care, hospital medicine, ED, hospice, home-visits and office-based medicine. I served as a chief nurse practitioner, and I teach and train others in my profession. I continued my education and received my Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2009 from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

My greatest accomplishment is opening my own clinic in October 2019 鈥 right at the beginning of COVID. The best thing about opening during a pandemic is being able to provide telemedicine to keep everyone safe.

Q. What advice would you give to 秋霞福利一区 students in the School of Nursing?

A. Pay attention to details and complete your assignments. Completed assignments help to build character and instill discipline in you that will help you in your entire career. Find a good study partner. Study early 鈥 do not wait until the last minute to study!

Helping Others: Breylen Carter-Pugh /2023/02/helping-others-breylen-carter-pugh/ Tue, 07 Feb 2023 14:15:24 +0000 /?p=102567

Breylen Carter-Pugh
Director of Community Integration Support and Services
Independent Living Center of Mobile
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Finance 鈥19

鈥淭he 秋霞福利一区 gave me a foundation that I still stand on to this day 鈥 a foundation of faith, fairness and kindness. I am able to let my light shine every day by changing lives and helping others.鈥

– Breylen Carter-Pugh 鈥19

Breylen Carter-Pugh always wanted to help others. So when this 秋霞福利一区 graduate was presented with the opportunity to serve people who have intellectual disabilities, he knew he could not pass that up.

鈥淏eing able to advocate and fight for their rights is what motivates me to do the work that I do,鈥 says Breylen, now director of Community Integration Support and Services at the 鈥淭hese people often get looked over and not heard, so being able to effect change and see others happy is what I love about my work.鈥

His experience as a student in the Grace Pilot School of Business and a campus leader at the Christ-centered university prepared him to use his talents in the world of business and service.

Throughout his college career, Breylen took advantage of the many opportunities 秋霞福利一区 offers, from faculty mentoring to becoming involved in

鈥淭he 秋霞福利一区 has guided me every step of the way,鈥 Breylen says. 鈥淲e have professors who don鈥檛 just teach out of a textbook but have worked in these fields for years. Some of them still work in those places while teaching, which allowed us to get more insider knowledge that a book can鈥檛 teach.鈥

Q. What have you been up to since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Finance

A.  Immediately upon graduating from 秋霞福利一区, I enrolled at Colorado Technical University and in 2021 and earned my MBA in Healthcare Administration. I began working at Volunteers of America within the Intellectual and Developmental Disability department. I now work at the Independent Living Center of Mobile, while also working on my Ph.D. in mental health. I am currently the youngest person to hold the director position while advancing in the Intellectual and Developmental Disability field.

Q. How did studying at 秋霞福利一区 prepare you?

A. The faculty and staff in the Grace Pilot School of Business gave me a business mindset that I needed to run a program and company within my current job. I gained valuable skills in culture, values and how to treat/manage others. The 秋霞福利一区 gave me a foundation that I still stand on to this day 鈥 a foundation of faith, fairness and kindness. I am able to let my light shine every day by changing lives and helping others.

Also, I worked in the student workforce on campus, and it prepared me more than I expected. Through that job, I had practice in interviewing and communicating with others. Because of this opportunity, I was better prepared for graduation and for presenting myself when I moved into my career.

Breylen Carter-Pugh聽

Q. What did you like most about 秋霞福利一区?

A. What I liked most about 秋霞福利一区 hands down has to be the faculty and staff. I love how everyone cares about you, from the finance department and professors to the president of the university. You are not another number at 秋霞福利一区, you are a person and everyone on campus knows you by name, not just your student number.

Q. What advice would you give to prospective 秋霞福利一区 students?

A. My advice to prospective students is to be open to receiving all the free help that 秋霞福利一区 offers, from the tutors to the services in the Student Success Center. I would also say to get involved in all the on-campus activities. Don鈥檛 just be a student 鈥 become a contributor to the student body. Doing this will help you make lifelong friendships and receive everything that the school has to offer, which is limitless.
