Kathy Dean uses her passion for storytelling and “playing with words” to share the stories of people, place and purpose that make the ��ϼ��һ�� unique. As associate vice president for university communications, she manages media relations, edits the TorchLight alumni magazine, and oversees university communications. A former award-winning journalist, she is a two-time recipient of the Baptist Communicators Association grand prize for feature writing. Kathy and her husband, Chuck, live with three extremely loud miniature schnauzers.

How do you know when you’re exactly where God wants you to be – using your gifts, following His calling, and making an impact that reaches beyond yourself ?��

For Brinkley Hearn, a ��ϼ��һ�� 2024 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education, confirmation didn’t come in a single moment, but in the quiet, daily victories of her first year as a fourth-grade teacher at Saraland Elementary School.��

Just a year ago, Brinkley stood on the graduation stage in front of Weaver Hall and accepted the university’s highest honor for a graduating female senior, the Annie Boyd Parker Weaver Award. Today, she is seeing the impact of her ��ϼ��һ�� education come to life in her own classroom – an education that prepared her not just to teach, but to lead with faith and purpose.��

“I feel an undeniable sense that I am exactly where I am meant to be. Every day, I have seen my students not only grow academically but also personally, and it feels like I am a part of something bigger than myself. The challenges and triumphs have become moments where I can feel God’s presence guiding me, strengthening me, and using me to make a difference in their lives. It is more than just a job – it is a mission – and I know I am fulfilling my calling.”��

Nationally Recognized for Excellence��

The ��ϼ��һ�� School of Education is��nationally recognized for preparing teachers like��Brinkley. Inspirational professors, 100% pass rates on teacher exams and collaborative partnerships��throughout the community are just a few reasons ��ϼ��һ�� is recognized for national excellence by the prestigious Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.��

The school maintains a 100% pass rate on the Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) for graduates, and 100% of Early Childhood and Elementary majors exceed the minimum passing score on their first attempt. A job placement rate of 100% means most education students have a teaching position lined up before they graduate.��

Key to ��ϼ��һ��’s success is a team of experienced faculty who know first-hand what it takes to do the work – manage a classroom, nurture students with a variety of needs and abilities, hold parent-teacher conferences, develop lesson plans that work.��

Collaborative Connections��

��ϼ��һ�� faculty collaborate with public and private school systems across lower Alabama to provide students with extensive experience throughout the community. Starting in the sophomore year, students have over 200 hours in the field at various schools, grade levels and school systems.��

One example is last fall’s “Beginning of School��Experience” partnership with nearby Saraland Elementary. Because ��ϼ��һ��’s fall semester starts after K-12 schools have already been in session a few weeks, pre-service student teachers don’t have the opportunity to experience those hectic early days of a new school year. The Beginning of School Experience let ��ϼ��һ�� students volunteer to work side-by-side with veteran teachers – before college classes even started.��

“We’ve had classes already about classroom��management, and so we’ve done plans like first day of school scripts and how to set up a��classroom and things like that. But it’s really neat to be in a classroom and see how that works��hands-on,” says senior Bethany Kilgore.��

��ϼ��һ�� alumna Allison Nelson ’06 was one of those veteran teachers showing the ropes to ��ϼ��һ�� student teachers.��

“These student teachers having the opportunity to see all of what happens is one more aspect that sets apart the education department at ��ϼ��һ��compared to other universities. It is one more step ��ϼ��һ�� is taking to help these future educators WIN in the world of teaching,” says Allison.��

Innovative Partnerships��

The mission of ��ϼ��һ��’s School of Education extends into the future, embracing new technologies and skills. In partnership with Pine Grove Elementary in Bay Minette, Alabama, ��ϼ��һ�� students are engaging in a robotics learning initiative led by Dr. Jessica Freeland, instructional design and technology graduate program��coordinator. Freeland is passionate about empowering classroom teachers with the knowledge and skills to provide the computer science and digital literacy instruction required for elementary schools by the Alabama State Department of Education.��

A grant from the North Baldwin Community Foundation – an affiliate of The Community Foundation of South Alabama – provided Pine Grove Elementary and ��ϼ��һ�� with robots designed to introduce early coding and problem-solving skills to��elementary students in engaging, age-appropriate ways.��

“Too often, teachers shy away from technology like robotics because they find terms like ‘coding’��intimidating. Through this project, I want to demystify those concepts and show how robots can be seamlessly integrated into everyday lessons. By empowering��educators, we’re ensuring that students will be��exposed to critical 21st-century skills in a fun and��engaging way,” says Freeland.��

She envisions her TE 405 students at ��ϼ��һ�� partnering with Pine Grove teachers to co-teach robotics lessons, further reinforcing the collaboration between the two institutions and enhancing the educational experience for all students.��

‘Passionate About Teaching’��

As she prepares to graduate in a few weeks, senior Bethany Kilgore says she is fully prepared to pursue her calling to teach, her mission to serve.��

“I have always been passionate about teaching��students, whether that be in a Sunday School class or teaching swim lessons during the summer. Teaching students something new and then seeing them��understand it is one of the best and most rewarding feelings in the world. I believe it is so important for��students to have teachers who are passionate about teaching them in developmentally appropriate ways, and I am learning how to do that to the best of my��ability at the ��ϼ��һ��,” Bethany says.

��ϼ��һ�� President Charles Smith to Graduates: Anchor Your Life in Christ��

MOBILE, Ala. –��In a powerful address during ��ϼ��һ��’s 2025 commencement, President Charles Smith urged graduates to “anchor your life and joy in the wisdom of God’s Word and the unshakable love of Christ.”

“This degree represents more than your academic success,” Smith told over 300 graduates in a ceremony held May 10 on the university’s Great Commission Lawn. “It is a testament to your perseverance, discipline and sacrifice – qualities that will serve you well as you step into an exciting new chapter of life.”

Rooted in Proverbs 3:5-6, Smith challenged the Class of 2025 to: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

Four Truths Taught at ��ϼ��һ��

In his message, Smith reminded graduates of four truths that serve as the foundation of everything taught at the ��ϼ��һ��.

God loves you��– “Not a smarter, holier, more accomplished version of you – the real you,” he said. “The question is not whether God loves you. The cross makes that clear. The real question is, will you trust Him to be who He promises to be?”
God has given you profound gifts��–��“Your very life is a gift… the talents you cultivated here at the ��ϼ��һ�� are gifts of God’s grace.” He added, “There will be times… when you doubt your abilities… In those moments… steady yourself with these truths: God loves you and has given you profound gifts.”
God has called you to steward your life and gifts for His glory and the good of the world��–��“While the temptation is strong to use them for ourselves, our gifts are meant to bless others and point them to Christ. This is where you will find life’s deepest joys and greatest impact,” he said.
Only Christ can satisfy your deepest longings��–��“As you enter this next chapter, commit to joining a strong local church. Immerse yourself in God’s Word. Cultivate godly friendships. Start a family. Serve your community. Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God. And as you do, commit to embracing our Great Commission Tradition here at the ��ϼ��һ��,” he said.

“We are proud to call you an alumnus of the ��ϼ��һ��,” Smith said in closing. “Keep the faith, stay the course and do not forget all that you learned here. Your Great Commission journey is just beginning, and we will be cheering you on every step of the way.”

Weaver Awards Presented

The ��ϼ��һ�� presented its top two student awards, the William K. Weaver Jr. Excellence Award and the Annie Boyd Parker Weaver Excellence Award, to Logan Lipke of Orange Beach, Alabama, and Anna Olsen of Semmes, Alabama. The awards are presented to the most outstanding graduating male and female seniors for exemplifying the university’s mission through scholarship, Christian character, leadership and service. The awards are named for the founding president and first lady of then-Mobile College.

Lipke graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in music – composition. He received the President’s Scholastic Award and Area Award in Music.

Olsen graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in education. She is an Honors with Thesis Program graduate and received the President’s Scholastic Award and Area Award in Communication.

Dr. Lonnie Burnett Alumni of the Year Award

The Dr. Lonnie Burnett Alumni of the Year award is named after immediate past president Dr. Lonnie Burnett, the 5^thpresident of the ��ϼ��һ��. A 1979 graduate of ��ϼ��һ��, Burnett dedicated over 40 years of service to education in southwest��Alabama, including 20 years faithfully serving the university as instructor, faculty member, dean and eventually president. Burnett exemplifies what it means to be an alumnus of the ��ϼ��һ��, living with godly character and seeking to serve the Lord in all aspects of life.��

The Dr. Lonnie Burnett Alumni of the Year award is given to a graduate of the ��ϼ��һ�� who exemplifies those qualities in the highest regard. The 2025 Alumni of the Year is Teresa Williamson, president of Roberts Brothers Inc.��

Williamson is a 1990 graduate of the ��ϼ��һ�� with a Bachelor of Science in business management and finance. She has served the greater Mobile community with distinction, Christ-like character and an unmatched godly integrity.��

“Whether it is volunteering in the community, engagement through the Mobile Chamber of Commerce, her involvement in and through her local church, or her leadership in real estate, Teresa is an example that all ��ϼ��һ�� alumni and current students can look up to,” said President Smith as he presented the award.

Faculty of the Year Award

For the first time in the university’s history, a new award was presented at commencement:��the Faculty of the Year award.��

The inaugural Faculty of the Year Award was presented to Dr. Julie Hughes, assistant professor of nursing and simulation lab coordinator for the Center for Excellence in Healthcare Practice in the School of Nursing, Celia Wallace College of Health Professions. Using high-fidelity simulators,��Hughes designs intricate simulations for students that allow them to experience real-world medical scenarios as they prepare for healthcare careers.

She recently brought the Blessing of the Hands to the School of Nursing’s Pinning Ceremony. This component acknowledges the responsibility that nurses shoulder in delivering care and compassion while reminding them they are never alone in their duties as Jesus empowers them to be instruments of His love and healing.��

Presenting the award, President Smith said,��“Dr. Hughes��points students and colleagues alike to Christ. In doing so, she has a profound impact on the lives of her students and their future patients.”

Trustee Resolution Honors Dr. Roger Breland

Dr. John Roger Breland, retiring executive director of the Roger Breland Center for Performing Arts, was honored with a resolution from the Board of Trustees celebrating his lifetime of music, ministry and mentorship.

For 31 years, Breland served as founder and director of TRUTH – one of the first internationally successful contemporary Christian recording groups. For the past 23 years, he played a pivotal role in shaping the ��ϼ��һ��’s Alabama School of the Arts.��

Throughout his career, Breland spread the Gospel message across the world, traveling more than 4 million miles across 50 nations, presenting over 12,000 concerts and producing 100 albums.��Along the way, he mentored generations of young men and women who today are successful leaders in the music industry and churches around the world.

His legacy at the ��ϼ��һ�� includes founding VOICES of Mobile, launching the beloved Christmas Spectacular, expanding the Alabama School of the Arts, securing funding for the Fisher/Brewer Recording Studio, and establishing the Roger and Linda Breland Endowed Scholarship.��

MOBILE, Ala. – The ��ϼ��һ�� School of Education proudly inducted 10 students into Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society in education, during a ceremony on Feb. 18 in Dorsett Auditorium.

Membership in Kappa Delta Pi is a prestigious recognition that highlights members’ exemplary academic performance and leadership in the field of education.

“Membership in Kappa Delta Pi indicates to potential employers that these students are ideal teacher candidates, exemplifying scholarship, leadership and integrity,” said Dr. Jessica Freeland, faculty counselor for the honor society.

About Kappa Delta Pi

Kappa Delta Pi was founded in 1911 as one of the first honor societies for a specific discipline. The society now has over 500 active chapters worldwide and recognizes students in educator preparation programs who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership in the field of education.

To qualify for membership, undergraduate students must have completed a total of 60 semester hours, including at least 12 hours of education courses, and must have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher. Graduate students must have completed at least 18 hours of graduate coursework and maintained an overall GPA of 3.75 or higher.

The ��ϼ��һ�� requires that all inductees exemplify worthy educational ideals, provide evidence of leadership abilities, and receive faculty recommendations before becoming members.

Dr. Jessica Freeland, assistant professor of education at ��ϼ��һ��, will conduct a hands-on training session for teachers at on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 12-3 p.m., where she will demonstrate how the robots can be used to enhance lessons in math, science, social studies, reading, and even physical education. Her goal is to build teacher confidence in using technology by making coding and robotics more accessible and relatable.��

“Too often, teachers shy away from technology like robotics because they find terms like ‘coding’ intimidating,” said Freeland. “Through this project, I want to demystify those concepts and show how robots can be seamlessly integrated into everyday lessons. By empowering educators, we’re ensuring that students will be exposed to critical 21st-century skills in a fun and engaging way.”

Educational Robots Provided Through Grant

A key feature of the project is its dual impact: both Pine Grove Elementary and the ��ϼ��һ�� will benefit. Half of the robots will remain with Pine Grove Elementary, while the other half will be used by Freeland to train ��ϼ��һ��’s pre-service teachers in her Education & Technology courses in the School of Education.

“This initiative allows us to not only support a high-needs school but also equip future teachers with hands-on experience in robotics and coding,” Freeland explained.

As the ��ϼ��һ�� School of Education instructional design and technology graduate program coordinator, Freeland is passionate about empowering classroom teachers with the knowledge and skills to provide the computer science and digital literacy instruction required for elementary schools by the Alabama State Department of Education. She envisions her TE 405 students at ��ϼ��һ�� partnering with Pine Grove teachers to co-teach robotics lessons, further reinforcing the collaboration between the two institutions and enhancing the educational experience for students on both ends.

Dr. Pam Moorer, principal of Pine Grove Elementary, said, “We are so grateful to the ��ϼ��һ�� and to the . The more opportunities we can offer our students, the more their horizons are broadened. You never know when you are going to spark something in a child, something that could lead to what they do in the future. We hope this inspires our students and creates curiosity they want to explore.”

The project was made possible by a grant from the North Baldwin Community Foundation, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of South Alabama.

Robots in Action

The robots provided through the grant are designed to introduce elementary students to early coding and problem-solving skills in engaging, age-appropriate ways. Below are brief descriptions of the robots that both Pine Grove Elementary and the ��ϼ��һ�� will receive:

4 Sphero Indi Robots:��These small, car-like robots can be programmed to follow paths by placing color-coded mats on the floor. Indi responds to commands such as “Speed Up” or “Turn Right,” helping students grasp basic coding concepts and practice computational thinking.
6 Bee Bots and 6 Bee Bot Mats:��These robots allow students to input a sequence of directional commands to navigate obstacles or reach designated points on a mat. They teach students programming logic through fun, interactive challenges and foster critical thinking and debugging skills.
4 Ozobot Evo Robots:��These small robots follow black lines and respond to color-coded markers, allowing students to create custom paths and commands. For more advanced learners, Ozobots can also be programmed using block coding through an app, offering a deeper dive into coding.

Empowering Students Through Technology

Freeland says introducing young students to robotics and coding will prepare them for future learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

“Robotics isn’t just about learning to code; it’s about problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity,” said Freeland. “These are the skills that will help today’s students become tomorrow’s innovators. My hope is that by making robotics accessible, students will develop confidence in their abilities and discover how much fun learning can be.”

MOBILE, Ala. – Local high school teachers are invited to a free event, “A Literary Talk with Teachers,” hosted by the ��ϼ��һ�� College of Arts and Sciences and sponsored by The Alabama Humanities Alliance. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in Moorer Auditorium on the ��ϼ��һ�� campus.

The evening will include a main lecture titled “Honor, Glory, and Kingship in the Life of Henry V” presented by Dr. Robert Schaefer, professor of political science at the University of West Georgia. His lecture will be followed by a response from Aaron McLeod, J.D., and a discussion with local high school teachers.

Introducing New Master of Arts Programs for Teachers

Dr. Katherine Abernathy, chair of the Department of Humanities at the Christian university, said A Literary Talk with Teachers “aims to rekindle your love of reading and thought-provoking discussion while exploring how great works of literature may still shape our communities today.”

It also offers an opportunity to introduce local educators to the university’s new Master of Arts degrees in English and History, two graduate programs that are specifically designed for teachers.

Both the Master of Arts in English and Master of Arts in History have a concentration in education (non-certification).

“These degrees are designed for teachers wishing to expand their career options while experiencing the love of literature or passion for history that first drew them to teaching,” Abernathy said. Classes are offered in a blended format, both in person and online, at times convenient for working teachers.

“The program is designed to allow educators the flexibility to continue their teaching career while earning their master’s degree. New Master of Arts in Creative Practice Starts Fall 2025

The new Master of Arts in Creative Practice will start Fall 2025 in the Department of Visual Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences. Courses are already being offered that lead to the master’s degree, through the university’s Graduate Certificate in Creative Practice. The creative practice certificate and master’s degree program are designed to nurture the creative talents of aspiring artists, designers and professionals seeking to enhance their creative skills and expand their career opportunities.

Meet the Guest Speakers

“A Literary Talk with Teachers” promises to be “an invigorating and inspiring evening that will refresh your literary spirit,” Abernathy said.

Dr. Robert Schaefer teaches classes on American government, ancient political theory, American political parties, and state and local politics. His areas of interest also include state constitutions and Shakespeare.

Aaron McLeod is an alumnus of the ��ϼ��һ��. A lawyer who focuses his practice on appellate litigation and dispositive-motion briefing, McLeod has represented multiple clients in appeals before the Alabama Supreme Court, Eleventh Circuit and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal, the Texas trial and appellate courts, and the United States Supreme Court.

While practicing law full-time, McLeod maintains a deep interest in the study of humanities. He regularly visits the university to speak on the importance of studying the humanities.

MOBILE, Ala. –��Inspirational professors, 100% pass rates on teacher exams and collaborative partnerships throughout the community are just a few reasons the��ϼ��һ�� School of Education��has been recognized for national excellence by the prestigious Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).��

The ��ϼ��һ�� School of Education was awarded accreditation recently for meeting or exceeding rigorous, nationally recognized standards developed by CAEP to ensure excellence in educator preparation programs.

‘Proof of Superior Quality’

“Earning CAEP accreditation is proof of the superior quality of the ��ϼ��һ��’s educator training programs,” said Dr. Joyce Woodburn, retiring dean of the School of Education who led the university’s accreditation team.

“The highly collaborative nature of our faculty means we work as a team to ensure our pre-service teachers know their subjects and have the clinical training that enables them to enter the classroom ready to teach effectively.”

100% Pass Rates

Dr. Ashley Milner, incoming dean of the ��ϼ��һ�� School of Education, said the Christian university has an exceptional track record for preparing generations of educators. That includes excellent results on tests required for graduates to earn initial teacher certification in Alabama.

The School of Education maintains a 100% pass rate on the Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) for graduates, and 100% of Early Childhood and Elementary majors exceed the minimum passing score on their first attempt.

“The amazing faculty in the School of Education works as a cohesive team to ensure that our students are prepared for a career in teaching. We value the collaborative partnerships we have established with local schools, educational organizations and the community. One of those students is May 2024 graduate Brinkley Hearn, a student-athlete on ��ϼ��һ��’s volleyball teams who graduated summa cum laude with a��Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Hearn also received the university’s top honor for a graduating female student, the��Annie Boyd Parker Weaver Award.

Hearn starts her career in education this fall as a 4^th grade teacher at Saraland Elementary School. She described her experience as a student in the ��ϼ��һ�� School of Education as “truly remarkable” and her professors as “truly inspirational.”

“Their unwavering faith and dedication to both academic excellence and spiritual growth provided a profound impact on my journey as an educator. I am grateful for the solid foundation I received in the School of Education, which continues to guide me in my career with confidence and competence,” Hearn said.

Sometimes when you venture out of your comfort zone, the Lord has a way of putting you exactly where you need to be.

What do a kindergarten teacher and a science teacher have in common? To Samantha Tallent, they have everything in common.

Samantha Tallent graduated from the ��ϼ��һ�� in 2009 with a bright future ahead of her. Upon graduation, she began teaching kindergarten at in Mt. Vernon, Alabama. During those years, she gained a passion for teaching children and seeing them to their absolute best.

Fast forward a decade later, and she began teaching in the science lab at . This is where the Lord grew her and stretched her outside of what she was used to.

“Pure shock and fear took over my body when my principal asked to move me to the science lab! Me, little ole me?! A kindergarten teacher of 10 years, teaching Science to PreK through 6th grade students? No! But I prayed and ventured out of my comfort zone and immediately fell in love with it,” says Tallent.��

In her years of teaching, Samantha has won numerous awards for her excellence in academic teaching. She received the Shell Regional Science Lab Award for 2020-2021 school year. She also was the winner of Satsuma City School District Teacher of the Year for 2020-2021.

Tallent says, “My job involves way more than simply teaching science. I have to be someone that my students want to learn from. To gain my students’ curiosity, win the hearts of the students who hate school and teach the students bouncing off the ceiling, I must be quite creative. That is where my life stories come into play and my dress-up closet comes to life!”

Q. What have you been up to since leaving ��ϼ��һ��?

A. Since leaving my home-away-from-home, I began my teaching career at Calcedeaver Elementary School. Kindergarten was my passion for 10 years! I thrived and fell in love with those tiny humans. The growth was monumental, and I knew God put me exactly where I was meant to be.

A decade later, my principal said she saw something in me and moved me to the science lab at Lee Elementary School. I fell in love with that position within the first year. I was able to tell jokes with the older students and still bond with the younger ones. I was being paid to create explosions in the lab and make science truly fun for all grade levels. Oh, was I in my element then. No pun intended!

Q. Career Highlights?

A. In my 15-year career, I have received many accolades. Although these honors make me smile, there is nothing more precious than seeing a struggling student thrive in my classroom. Simple comments from students keep me going and make my day. “Mrs. Tallent, you sure make science fun.” “Mrs. Tallent you are a crazy teacher, how do you even come up with this stuff?”These are the awards that I will always remember.

Q. What did you like most about ��ϼ��һ��?

A. The small town feel! I was never a number in the School of Education at ��ϼ��һ��. My professors pushed me and saw me as someone fresh to the education world needing nurture and direction. I was followed well into my teaching career from several professors. They always made me feel special and I will always remember that feeling. It is a feeling I try to pass on to my students when I see them in the real world.

Q. What are you passionate about?

A. I am passionate about teaching the WHOLE child. My job on paper is to teach science. But boy-oh-boy does it involve way more than science standards! I always open my science lessons with a heartfelt story or funny tale enticing the students’ attention and gaining their curiosity. Bam! That is when I slip in the science standards and there you have it! They’ve learned science. I’ve won their heart and the label of “the crazy science lady.” It is a win for all!

Molly Grace Watkins is the Content Creator for the Office for Marketing and Public Relations at the ��ϼ��һ��. She is a full-time student in the College of Arts and Sciences, where she is pursuing a degree in Communication with a concentration in Journalism and Broadcasting. A published author, Molly Grace loves writing and being in front of the camera. She is an active member and volunteer at Cottage Hill Baptist Church. The ��ϼ��һ�� is a Christ-centered university offering on-campus and online associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in over 75 academic programs. Founded in 1961, the ��ϼ��һ�� is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention and is located 10 miles north of Mobile, Alabama on a campus of over 880 acres.

Heath Vester

Heath Vester is an experienced graphic designer and photographer. He serves as the Associate Vice President for Creative Services for the ��ϼ��һ��’s Office of Marketing & Public Relations. He is an alumnus of the ��ϼ��һ��, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and a Master of Science in Leadership and Communication. Beyond his role at the university, Heath is the owner of Heath Vester Creative, his freelance company where he provides a wide variety of creative services to individuals and organizations.

President’s Scholastic & Academic Achievement Awards Presented to Class of 2023

MOBILE, Ala. – The ��ϼ��һ�� presented academic awards to outstanding graduating seniors of the Class of 2023 during an awards convocation April 26 in Dorsett Auditorium.

The Present’s Scholastic Achievement Award was presented to baccalaureate students who have attained the highest grade point average while completing a four-year degree at the ��ϼ��һ��. This year, 19 graduates earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average during their academic careers.

Academic Achievement Awards were presented to outstanding graduates in each college and school who were recognized for academic accomplishment, service, scholarship and Christian character.

The university’s two top student awards, the William K. Weaver Jr. Excellence Award and the Annie Boyd Parker Weaver Excellence Award, will be announced during graduation ceremonies on May 6. Approximately 330 students will receive degrees at commencement, which will be held on campus.

The begins at 10 a.m. on the Dr. Fred and Sue Lackey Great Commission Lawn.
