Master of Arts in Counseling and Family Therapy

The Master of Arts in Counseling and Family Therapy at the Çïϼ¸£ÀûÒ»Çø equips individuals for the practice of professional counseling and marriage and family therapy in settings that include, but are not limited to, mental health centers, hospitals, churches and private practice. Students acquire the knowledge and skills to address a variety of mental health and relational issues in the context of relationships and families.

The Master of Arts in Counseling and Family Therapy program at the Çïϼ¸£ÀûÒ»Çø provides you with:

  • An education that integrates classic and evidence-based theories and approaches with Biblical principles and Christian worldview
  • The opportunity to learn from faculty who have taught and counseled in various professional settings
  • A small classroom experience where you will receive personal attention from your professors

A small number of courses are offered online. However, the majority of the courses for this program are delivered in a traditional 16-week semester format on campus. Each of these classes meets one night per week for three hours. The degree can be completed in as few as seven to eight consecutive semesters (including summers), depending on your enrollment date, with most students finishing in about three years.

The Çïϼ¸£ÀûÒ»Çøâ€™s Master of Arts in Counseling and Family Therapy is recognized as COAMFTE – equivalent by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Marriage and Family Therapy and is accepted by ABEMFT as meeting the education requirements for the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist credential in the State of Alabama.

The program is also recognized as CACREP-equivalent by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling and is accepted by ABEC as meeting the education requirements for the Licensed Professional Counselor credential in the State of Alabama.

Graduates of our program have gone on to acquire the LMFT, LPC, and related licenses in other states, as well.
