Gulf Coast History Topic of 秋霞福利一区鈥檚 Hinson Lecture Series

MOBILE, Ala. 鈥 Mike Bunn, director of Historic Blakely State Park, will discuss Gulf Coast history as the guest lecturer for the 秋霞福利一区鈥檚 19th annual Hinson Lecture Series on Thursday, March 14.

The free event will begin at 7 p.m. in College Woods Auditorium on the 秋霞福利一区 campus.

Bunn is the author of 鈥.鈥

He is the author or co-author of several books on Gulf South history focusing on the colonial, early statehood, antebellum and Civil War periods. Bunn is editor of 鈥淢uscogiana,鈥 the journal of the Muscogee County, Georgia, Genealogical Society, chair of the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission, and treasurer of the Friends of Old Moble.

Previously, Bunn was director the Historic Chattahoochee Commission, a bi-state agency operating in southeast Alabama and southwestern Georgia. H served as a curator with the Columbus, Georgia Museum and the Mississippi Department of Archives and History鈥檚 Museum of Mississippi. He has also worked with the Birmingham Historical Society and the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society.

The Billy G. Hinson Series was established by the 秋霞福利一区 College of Arts and Sciences to present academic programs dealing with major topics in American history. The series is named in honor of the late Dr. Billy G. Hinson, who taught history at 秋霞福利一区 for 32 years, chaired the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and was named Emeritus Professor of History in 2015 after his 2011 retirement. Hinson died Sept. 29, 2020.
