Job Description:
Position Qualifications (Educational credentials, skills and abilities):

  • Christian who is an active member in local church.
  • Supports Statement of Christian Affirmation (/about/mission/)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communication, Marketing or related field
  • Excellent communication and management skills
  • At least 5 years of experience in writing and media relations
  • Deadline-oriented individual with the ability to work in a fast-paced, creative environment.
  • Detail-oriented individual with ability to manage day-to-day operations.Ìý

Position Responsibilities:Ìý

  • Demonstrates the Imago Dei of Christ (Gen 1:26) in all aspects of one’s professional role, personal interactions and community relations.
  • Develops and implements strategic communication plans that support the university’s mission, goals and brand, working closely with senior leadership and other stakeholders;
  • Responsible for the day-to-day editorial operation within University Communications, including but not limited to coordinating a comprehensive and diversified media relations program; and investing in understanding and supporting university leaders, their work and the work of their teams;
  • Writes news releases, media guides, newsletter articles, and much more;
  • Assists the Associate Vice President for Creative Services with MarCom operations and represents the office at meetings and on projects as needed;
  • Coordinates the daily editorial content supporting the missions of the university and department to ensure alignment with the strategic goals of the university and department;
  • Works in collaboration with, and serves as a consultant to, various departments on campus for messaging, writing and other communication strategies;
  • Edits external content written by MarCom staff, as well as content from other university departments, and oversees the distribution of news releases to targeted lists of media;
  • Oversees the university’s media relations, serving as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and managing the university’s reputation and image in the media;
  • Develops and implements internal communication strategies to keep faculty, staff and students informed and engaged with the university’s mission, goals and initiatives;
  • Leads the university’s crisis communications efforts; develops and implements communication plans in the event of a crisis or emergency;
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, including the media, faculty, staff, students and alumni;
  • Manages the university’s communication budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently;
  • Stays current on industry trends and best practices in communication, and applies these insights to the university’s communication efforts;
  • Writes, edits and oversees the TorchLight Magazine;
  • Works closely with the university’s social media team on strategy, ensuring that the university’s presence is consistent with its brand and messaging;
  • Assists in developing the university’s content strategy, ensuring that all content is consistent with the university’s brand and messaging and effectively engages target audiences;
  • Supervise staff and student interns as required;
  • Develop effective practices to set metrics, measure and report on the work, and adjust on an ongoing basis;
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as defined by the Vice President
